SWAP: Development of a Stoplight Nutrition System for Food Banks and Food Pantries
This article describes the development and pilot-testing of a new stoplight nutrition system for food banks and food pantries called SWAP (Supporting Wellness at Pantries). It ranks foods according to saturated fat, sodium and sugar into green, yellow and red. Six food pantries in Connecticut piloted SWAP and showed significant increases in their supply of green foods and significant decreases in red foods (both p<.01) over one year.
