Promoting Food Security for All Children

The American Academy of Pediatrics has released a new policy statement which issues a first-ever recommendation that pediatricians screen all children for food insecurity. The document identifies the short and long-term adverse health impacts of food insecurity, and recommends that pediatricians become familiar with and refer families to needed community resources. The statement renews the call for protecting and increasing access to and funding for feeding programs, and it is important to note that the Healthy Food Bank Hub website (now Hunger and Health) was listed as one of three key resources for pediatricians to utilize.
