Nutrition-Focused Food Banking in the United States: A Qualitative Study of Healthy Food Distribution Initiatives
The impacts of nutrition-related health outcomes of people served is an increasing area of focus for the food bank sector. This qualitative study aimed to describe the ways in which food banks can adopt nutrition-based practices to promote healthy food distribution. Study findings demonstrate a variety of effective initiatives being implemented by food banks to improve healthy food access and reduce diet-related health disparities. More than 40 million American rely on the Feeding America Network for food that supplements their diets, which is why it is vital to ensure nutrition is a cornerstone of food banking.
