How HIPAA and Concerns about Protecting Patient Information Affect Your Food Bank – Health Care Partnership
Food banks and community-based organizations working with health care partners need to be aware of the ways that partnership activities, including sharing of client information, may be governed by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Feeding America worked with the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation (CHLPI) at Harvard Law School to create an updated resource that provides an overview of the HIPAA legislation, how these regulations apply to food banks and their partners, and how to comply. Sample patient authorizations, business associate agreement templates, and data use agreements are included in this 2020 update.
