Diagnostic Accuracy of Two Food Insecurity Screeners Recommended for Use in Health Care Settings
In 2016, 1 in 8 individuals and 1 in 6 children were food-insecure. Given the link between food insecurity and chronic disease, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended all households with children be screened for food insecurity by their primary care provider using a validated, 12-month recall tool. Researchers recently tested the diagnostic accuracy of the AAP’s screener against the Hunger Vital Sign (HVS) screening tool through a convenience sample of individuals in adult and pediatric emergency care settings. Learn more about the findings and how health care systems can effectively adopt food insecurity screenings.
