The Determinants of Food Insecurity among Food Bank Clients in the United States

Many low-income households in the U.S. struggle with food insecurity. Knowing that food insecurity is a growing public health concern, and to better understand the complex challenges faced by these vulnerable groups, Feeding America’s Technical Advisory Group analyzed data from Hunger in America 2014 to demonstrate the trade-offs and coping strategies that are often predictors of living in a food-insecure household, particularly that access charitable food organizations. This study emphasizes the importance of identifying related variables to influence policy and promote direct resources for those facing food insecurity.
