Brief Assessment of Food Insecurity Accurately Identifies High-Risk US Adults
In 2015, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended universal screening for food insecurity in the clinical setting; however, the two-item screener that was recommended had only been tested in narrow populations. Feeding America and members of its Technical Advisory Group tested the performance of the screener using observed results from the USDA’s annual food security module within the Current Population Survey and found the questions to be highly sensitive, further confirming that the two-item screener is an appropriate tool for identifying whether an individual may be experiencing difficulty affording sufficient food.
