At First Glance: Hunger, Health & Equity | Spotlight on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders

Food insecurity impacts every community in the U.S., and for individuals in the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, this reality is no different. 20.6 million individuals in the United States identify as AAPI, representing over 30 countries- all with unique cultures and backgrounds. Food insecurity varies largely amongst this diverse population, with 1 in 5 Pacific Islanders experiencing food insecurity and 1 in 17 Asian Americans experiencing food insecurity. This issue brief developed by Feeding America’s Health Equity Action League (HEAL) describes food and health disparities within the Asian American Pacific Islander population and offers suggestions on immediate actions individuals and organizations can take to advance health equity and ensure all have a fair opportunity to live long and healthy lives.
