A Closer Look: Spotlight on Colorectal Cancer

Diet quality and food security status are essential components of both prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is the fourth most common and second deadliest cancer in the United States. Individuals who are food insecure have a lower likelihood of being up-to-date on colorectal cancer screenings which negatively impacts health outcomes. This spotlight issue brief developed by Feeding America’s Health Equity Action League (HEAL) in collaboration with Colorectal Cancer Alliance raises awareness about the intersection of colorectal cancer and nutrition. The brief additionally offers suggestions on actions organizations and individuals can take to advance health equity and ensure all individuals living with colorectal cancer have a fair opportunity to live long and healthy lives.
