2018 National Food Insecurity and Poverty Brief
This research brief is meant to connect professionals and individuals within food-insecure communities with information on the state of poverty and food insecurity in the U.S. This asset and associated infographic highlights key takeaways from newly released U.S. Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service (USDA ERS) and the U.S. Census Bureau 2017 data on food insecurity, poverty and unemployment. These numbers are updated annually and reflect data from the previous year. Though poverty and food insecurity rates dropped between 2016 and 2017, 1 in 8 (40 million) people are still at risk of hunger, of which 12 million were children.
